Exhibition at Friars Gate

Yesterday I took 27 of my paintings to Friars Gate Theatre in Kilmallock, where they will go on display for the month of June as the "abundance of colour" exhibition.

The painting shed took on a whole new aura because I could finally get in the door!

The delivery felt a little like giving birth all over again - but a lot less painful!

Hopefully the exhibition will go well and a few people will turn up on the night. (Nothing worse than the thoughts of an empty theatre).  It looks like my sisters will hit the M7 from Kildare for the evening, "blood is always thicker than water" and all that! As for the rest of the room, who knows?

Everybody Welcome!  7.30 (Irish time!)

Good News!

When the sun peeped out last week for our full quota of 'Irish Summer', I did this quick painting on a piece of wood to make a table for the garden. The dark reflections on the wood is just the sun shining through the fence...

So, the Good News is that Wednesday 6th June is the opening day for my EXHIBITION in Friars Gate Theatre, Kilmallock.

The Bad News is that the summer is now over. The sunblock gone, the hats and gloves are back.

My table doesn't look nearly as good in the rain!!

Light and dark

What to think of this painting? Is it a picture of a dark room, or is it a picture or a beautiful summer day with a blue sky outside?
Is the glass half empty or half full?
Is the painting even finished yet? The paint is drying, despite the obvious imperfections it strikes a note!

Philosophy

Some might recognise the hill at the back of the house in this picture. I know there is no lake and no orbs of colour between me and the hill in reality, but thats what imagination and paint can do for you!

This saying is by the Dalai Lama I think, and it seems to fit this well.

"There is no need for temples;
No need for complicated philosophy.
Our own brain, our own heart
is our temple: the philosophy is kindness"

Spiritual Being

There is a saying that sticks in my mind, "We are not human beings on a spiritual journey, we are spiritual beings on a human journey". I think that this small picture is my way of interpreting that idea.

I believe that I set out every day as a Spiritual being on a human journey, sometimes the journey is easy, sometimes not, but every day I set out again and search for whatever a spirit searches for.

The River

By now I have used most of the paintings in one way or another, either on facebook or the website.

This one reminds me that you "Don't push the river, it flows by itself". I know there are lots of versions of the saying, but they all mean the same thing...

P.S. Don't get swept away by the river either!!

Orb Paintings

So what are Orbs? Who knows? A trick of the light on the camera? The light reflecting from the flash onto a speck of dust indoors? A raindrop when you are outside, or if you say it wasn't raining then the humidity in the air reflected for that millisecond as a blue circle of light.

Whatever it is just let it brighten your day!
